In 1997, James Ulland founded Ulland Investment Advisors and offered investors Intelligent Growth, a growth stock investment strategy. In 1998, the firm began offering Intelligent Blend, a moderate growth strategy. Defensive Growth became available to investors in 2002, combining large company stocks with corporate debt securities.
Previously, Mr. Ulland served from 1993-1995 as Minnesota’s Commissioner of Commerce, the state’s chief regulator of securities, banks and insurance companies. This experience gives Ulland Investment Advisors a unique perspective on risk control, which is used in the portfolio management.
During 1996, Mr. Ulland was Executive Vice President for Portfolio Administration at Kopp Investment Advisors of Edina, Minnesota. There, he focused on advanced portfolio management techniques and investing in small, high growth stocks.
